She read you bedtime stories. She packed your lunch. She drove you to all your practices and games. She believed in you and encouraged you through thick and thin. Yes, we’re talking about your one and only Mom. Abraham Lincoln is quoted as saying, “All I am, all I hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” Being a mom means selfless giving and endless dedication, and our moms deserve many accolades for their unconditional love.
Each May, we get to say “thank you” to Mom for all she has done for us over the years. From the sleepless nights of the first years to the words of wisdom in our adulthood, there’s no one who has had equal influence in our lives. And certainly no one can replace her. She’s done so much for you, so what can you do for her to adequately express your gratitude?
There is something that you can do for your mom this Mother’s Day that is better than flowers, candy or a card. Help your mom by scheduling a comprehensive eye exam, and offer to drive her to her appointment. Beginning around the age of 40, adults should have regular eye screenings to assess any focusing problems, refractive errors or eye diseases. Many eye diseases, such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration, have no symptoms in the early stages, so the best way to diagnose eye conditions when they are most treatable is to have comprehensive eye exams on a regular basis.
After you have taken Mom to her eye exam, you can rest assured that she will be able to see the faces of her loved ones clearly for years to come. For all the years that she faithfully scheduled your doctor appointments and dental check-ups, this is your opportunity to take care of her heath! So pick up the phone and call your Mom to say a big, hearty “thank you.” Offer to take her to her comprehensive eye exam, and then you can treat her to a special lunch to celebrate all that she means to you. It will be a day that she will always remember!
