Cataract-Fighting Smoothie

Preventing cataracts is something that people of all ages should be considering and evaluating their own plans to protect their eyesight.

A great way to start your quest for eye health is by starting your day with an eye healthy smoothie. Not only is it nutritious for your eyes, but also something your entire body can benefit from. Your smoothie can be personalized to your likings as long as you use these guidelines for optimum eye health. These are foods that are rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, and lutein and zeaxanthin. Vitamin C is readily found in fruits like oranges, lemons, kiwis, strawberries and grapefruits. It is also found in vegetables like broccoli. Vitamin E is found in nuts like almonds, sunflower seeds avocadoes, and hazelnuts too. Lutein and zeaxanthin are found in dark green greens like kale, collards, and spinach. Adding healthy oils to your smoothie like extra virgin oil will help in the absorption of lutein and zeaxanthin.

Cataract Fighting Smoothie


  • 6 strawberries
  • 1 kiwi, peeled
  • 1 orange, peeled, pith and seeds removed
  • 2 handfuls baby spinach
  • ½ cup of Almond Milk
  • 8 cubes of Ice
  • Drizzle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil


  1. Prepare fruit for blender
  2. Add all ingredients to blender, add spinach a little at time
  3. Add ice, I like my smoothie cold but it helps puree the smoothie to a nicer consistency too.
  4. Finish smoothie with Extra Olive Oil, blend until perfectly smooth
