During Cataract Awareness Month in June, we gave our readers an opportunity to register for a free Kindle Fire. For every entry received, YourSightMatters.com donated $5 to Operation Sight, a nonprofit organization that seeks to restore vision and enrich the lives of those who are affected by cataracts.
Cataracts are one of the world’s leading causes of blindness, and it is much more prevalent among the poor. Even in the United States, cataracts are a significant cause of vision loss in impoverished areas. Poor vision limits vocational and educational opportunities, so cataracts and poverty often go hand in hand.
Operation Sight is a project funded through the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Foundation. This endeavor identifies patients in local communities and helps to:
- complete necessary paperwork
- schedule pre-op exams
- deliver patients to eye surgery centers
- provide a financial stipend to assist with cataract removal
YourSightMatters.com has partnered with Operation Sight to provide a direct, positive impact on thousands of individuals and offer hope and a brighter future.
Thank you for your entries into the Kindle fire contest. With your help, we were able make a generous donation to Operation Sight. We also hope that you selected the box to receive the E-newsletter from YourSightMatters.com so you can stay updated with all the latest information regarding eye health.
