Tennessee Trail Mix

My ideal trail mix is a sweet and salty combo, with my favorite types of nuts, dried fruit, and (if it’s not the dead of summer) dark chocolate chips, too! Of course, despite its name, trail mix isn’t just for trails; it’s great for a midday snack, road trip or tailgating.

This trail mix is full of nuts that promote healthy vision. Almonds especially are good for eye health because they are great sources of vitamin E. Antioxidants, like vitamin E, protect eye muscles and tissue from free radical damage, and reduce your risk of vision problems. Consuming regular amounts of this antioxidant can help prevent age-related macular degeneration and cataracts. Plus, pistachios and dark chocolate contain their own antioxidants, making this a wonderful snack to bring on the trail or the road!

Ingredients (makes 2 cups):

  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • ½ cup roasted salted pistachios
  • 5 tbsp dried cherries
  • ¼ cup dark chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a big sealable bag. Close the bag and shake it to mix the trail mix up. Take the bag with you on the go, or pour into a bowl or tray for a party snack.
